The Cambodian Center for Independent Media (CCIM) is a media development organization engaged in the following activities: producing radio and online programs; media reporting on news websites and social media platforms; training of journalists and aspiring journalists, promotion and training on media and information literacy; training and networking with citizen journalists, and advocacy on media-related rights.

Summary of Duties

The Editor-in-chief is responsible for Supervising News Unit, enhancing the high quality of news contents, enhancing the performances of the Unit staff, joining activities of income generation, and making the Unit reports.

Duties

  1. Lead and supervise VOD News Unit
    • Lead the implementation of VOD strategies and activity plan for the News Unit (Editorial, Online and TV Teams)
    • Enhance the performances of the Unit staff by staff appraisal, motivation capacity building, and other means to ensure everyone fairly/equality treated and well disciplined
  2. Ensure the quality of VOD News contents
    • Supervise/lead editorial meeting
    • Guide news reporters/editors
    • Make final checks/decisions for all news articles/videos before publish
    • Enhance the practices of VOD news standards, guidelines, and ethics to ensure the high quality of the news contents
  3. Support the Management Committee and Media Director
    • Join activates of CCIM/VOD strategy development
    • Join activities of income generation such as participating media project concept development, supporting marketing team, etc.

Requirements

  • Cambodian national
  • A bachelor’s degree in the media sector or other relevant field
  • At least three years’ experience as News Editor
  • Experience in using Adobe Audition 3.0 or similar software
  • Able to work flexible hours and travel to provinces
  • Good team player
  • Solid editing skills
  • Ability to provide training to various personnel such as editors and reporters
  • Proficient English speaker and capable of listening, writing and reading in English
  • Strong Leadership skills
  • Capable of using social media networks, internet and email
  • Competent at typing Khmer Unicode and using Microsoft office
  • Good communication skills and relations with other journalists
  • Wider understanding of social issues
  • Capable of creative, critical thinking and speaking
  • Able to work overtime, on roster, on holiday or on weekend, and travel to the provinces when required
  • Ability to write investigative reports and news analysis for online and radio
  • A passionate and energetic team member with a genuine interest in working to develop independent and professional media, promote human rights and democratic governance
